Description
Intrusive thoughts are like unwanted visitors. You can’t always control who knocks — but you get to choose whether to invite them in.
Unwelcome Visitors takes that one image and turns it into a complete, guided worksheet. Instead of arguing with a thought or trying to force it out, you learn to notice it at the door, decide whether it has earned a place inside, and go back to living your life while it knocks.
Designed by a Licensed Professional Counselor, drawing on cognitive behavioural and acceptance-based approaches. Useful on your own, and equally at home in a therapy session.
The six steps
- Who’s at the door? — name the visitor, and how it tried to get your attention
- Does this visitor deserve an invitation? — is the thought helpful, kind, factual, moving you toward the life you want?
- You are the homeowner — ready-made responses to use at the door, plus space to write your own
- What happens if I invite it inside? — the emotions, behaviours, and costs that usually follow
- What happens if I leave the door closed? — in ten minutes, in an hour, tomorrow
- Return to your home — choose what actually matters to you instead of standing at the door arguing
Closes with a reflection and a homeowner’s affirmation to return to: the goal is not to stop every unwanted visitor from knocking. The goal is to stop giving every visitor a key.
